New Motor Pedal from Gamechanger Audio: a small electromechanical revolution?

Gamechanger Audio, often noted for its bold innovations, unveils the Motor Pedal, a pedal with a motor inside!!!! Scheduled for shipment in June 2025, this pedal is currently available for pre-order at a preferential rate until April 30. We tell you all about it!

A unique concept

At the heart of the Motor Pedal is a brushed DC motor, whose rotation speed is synchronized in real time with the pitch of the notes played. For example, a note of 440 Hz drives the motor at 146 revolutions per second. An inductor captures this rotation to generate a raw audio signal, offering an authentic, organic sound experience.

5 distinct sound engines

The Motor Pedal offers 5 synthesis modes:

  • Motor: Raw electromagnetic capture of rotating coils, producing glitchy, rough sounds.
  • MXD: Cross-modulation with a digital wave, generating metallic and distorted textures.
  • M-Wave: Digital oscillator synchronized with the motor, offering multitimbral synthetic tones.
  • Coil Mode: Injection of alternating current into the coils for resonant analog vibrations.
  • Vocoder: 24-band digital vocoder using the motor as carrier and the instrument signal as modulator.

Motor Pedal controls

The Motor Pedal is equipped with multiple settings for extensive sound customization:

  • Tone Boost: Analog equalizer for tonal sculpting.
  • Independent volumes: Separate control of direct signal and motor output.
  • Motor Drive: Analog distortion applied to the motor signal.
  • Envelope, Glide, Vibrato: Parameters for modulating envelope, portamento and vibrato.
  • Interval selector: Allows you to shift the motor pitch by an octave or by specific intervals.
  • X-Mod: Cross amplitude modulation between input signal and motors.

The built-in expression pedal offers a variety of modes:

  • Accelerator: Upward pitch-shift control.
  • Brake: Pitch-shift down or stop the engine.
  • Clutch: Temporary disconnection of the motor to create drones.
  • Volume: Volume control for smooth crescendos.
  • Drift: Subtle or intense vibrato effect.

The motor, designed for a service life of 3,000 to 5,000 hours, is easily replaceable, comparable to changing lamps on an amplifier. An indicator light signals when it’s time for replacement.

Retail price: €299
Exclusive “Redline Red” and “Blue Viper” colors, as well as the standard “Classic Black” finish, are available. Each pedal is customized and hand-signed by the Gamechanger Audio engineering team.
