New Germanium Pre-amp from Benson

Benson Germanium preamp

Benson’s Germanium Preamp is a new addition to their pedal range, based on their already famous “amp-in-a-box” preamp. The main feature of this new pedal is the replacement of the first FET transistor by a germanium gain stage, borrowed from their Germanium Boost pedal. This modification is designed to bring a tone specific to germanium, known for its warmth and stability in the face of temperature variations.

Compared with the previous FET-based version, the Germanium Preamp offers slightly less distortion, but a richer sound and a more dynamic feel. It merges the characteristics of overdrive, boost and fuzz, offering great versatility. Tone controls allow precise adjustment, while varied clipping options offer a wide sound palette.

This Germanium variation builds on the experience gained during the development of the Germanium Boost, combining the advantages of germanium transistors with the proven design of the Benson preamp .
