The Canvas Volume Pedal is Walrus Audio’s latest high-end volume pedal, designed for demanding guitarists and bassists who want more than just volume control. Named Canvas Volume, it is part of the Canvas series, a range of innovative utilities designed to modernize pedalboard accessories while maintaining impeccable sound quality.
Concept: fusion of classic and modern technology
Unlike a traditional volume pedal that uses mechanical parts subject to wear and tear (cables, potentiometers, gears), the Canvas Volume relies on a non-contact position sensor coupled to high-end analog VCAs. This approach delivers :
- ultra-smooth response throughout the pedal stroke,
- increased durability without mechanical wear points,
- an expressive feel similar to the great classics, but more consistent over time.
In other words, Walrus Audio merges the best of 2 worlds: the analog feel of historic volume pedals with the reliability and precision of modern ones.
Flexible routing for all configurations
One of the great strengths of this pedal is its integration into a variety of rigs. It offers several signal path options:
- Mono In / Mono Out with dedicated tuner output
- Stereo In / Stereo Out for stereo configurations
- Mono In / Dual Mono Out to split a signal into two different paths
This flexibility makes it equally suited to a simple installation or a more complex setup with stereo effects or advanced routing.
Advanced underfoot customization
Walrus Audio is not content with a “fixed” volume: discreet controls located under the sole allow you to deeply customize the pedal’s response:
- Tapping: eight selectable curves (including one specific to Canvas and six recreating classic responses) to adjust the way volume responds to foot movement.
- Minimum On: sets the amount of signal that passes through even when the pedal is in the heel-down position, useful for expression effects or highly controlled nuances.
- Gain: offers the possibility of a slight boost up to around +9 dB, transforming the volume pedal into its own mini-boost if required.
- Lag: introduces a controlled delay between foot movement and volume reaction, ideal for very gradual crescendos or kinematic swell effects.
This level of customization is rare on a volume pedal, and gives the Canvas a versatility that goes far beyond simple “volume off/on”.
