Thorpy FX, the renowned British brand of guitar effects pedals, has recently launched a new pedal called THE WOPR. The result of a collaboration with artist Oli Brown, this pedal features a unique combination of fuzz and boost circuits.
Oli Brown, known for Oli Brown and the Dead Collective and Raveneye, wanted a pedal that combined the circuitry of Fallout Cloud with the silicon boost inspired by the Veteran Rangemaster from the same brand. Thorpy FX developed a first version, which was used by the artist for several years. The concept was then taken a step further, giving birth to THE WOPR.
THE WOPR is distinguished by its fuzz circuit, inspired by the Fallout Cloud (itself inspired by a Big Muff), but with added aggressiveness and richness. The pedal offers Volume, Sustain, Bass and Treble controls for fine-tuning the sound. Bass and treble are active, offering the possibility of cutting or boosting these frequencies.
The Boost circuit, located after the fuzz, has Range and Boost settings. The Range setting lets you explore different sounds, adding further flexibility to the Rangemaster-inspired boost effect.
The name WOPR is a reference to the artificial intelligence supercomputer in the film “Wargames”. This cinematic nod underlines Thorpy FX’s approach to sonic power and complexity.
Retail price: €267.95
