Wampler Pedals recently launched a new pedal, the Mofetta Overdrive/Distortion. Designed by Brian Wampler, this pedal takes its inspiration from the famous Ibanez MT10 Mostortion of the ’90s, while incorporating improvements to optimize its performance.
Inspired by the legendary Ibanez MT10 Morstortion
The Ibanez MT10 Mostortion, launched in 1990, was part of a series of affordable pedals that were quickly adopted by guitarists for their low-gain, tube amplifier-like tones. Despite limited production, it became highly sought-after on the second-hand market, fetching high prices.
The Wampler Mofetta: an improved tribute
The Mofetta takes the spirit of the Mostortion and adds extra features. It offers classic overdrive and more pronounced distortion thanks to the addition of MOSFETs in the overdrive section.
Technical specifications
- Overdrive and Distortion: The Mofetta excels in low- and medium-gain tones, offering tube-like compression while retaining musical warmth and high headroom.
- 3-band EQ: Unlike many pedals of the time, the Mofetta features bass, midrange and treble controls, allowing you to adjust the sound for either a broad, rich overdrive or a more focused, transparent distortion.
- True MOSFET Clipping: The original Mostortion used diodes for distortion. The Mofetta, on the other hand, incorporates true MOSFETs in the clipping process, allowing you to switch from gentle overdrive to more incisive distortion via the texture switch.
- Articulated voicing : MOSFET clipping offers a bolder, more articulate voicing, louder and slightly more aggressive than the diode-based original. This change gives a wider gain range, ideal for sounds ranging from dynamic overdrive to reactive distortion.
Retail price: $199.97
