French brand PFX Circuits has just unveiled its latest creation, the Yarol Drive, a signature overdrive pedal designed in collaboration with musician Yarol Poupaud.
Offered in a limited edition of 50, this pedal promises to combine sonic versatility with high-end features, all in a neat, sturdy design. For our collector friends, this pedal also comes with a card signed by Yarol Poupaud!
A trusting partnership between PFX and Mr Poupaud
Yarol Poupaud, legendary French guitarist and particularly with the group FFF, is an avid user of PFX pedals, particularly the MUZE and JULIUS models. For this new collaboration, the objective was clear: to bring together 2 distinct types of sound in a single pedal, while offering a flexible experience for musicians in search of a versatile overdrive.
The Yarol Drive was born of this desire to innovate, without simply cloning existing circuits. The result: a two-in-one pedal featuring a transparent Overdrive channel inspired by MXR Timmy, and a modern Dirt channel with a fuzzy, acid character reminiscent of RAT.
Some key points of the Yarol Drive
The Yarol Drive offers two independent channels, each with precise settings:
Overdrive channel (green LED) :
- Gain: adjust saturation, from light boost to heavy crunch.
- Treble: adjust the amount of treble to fine-tune the sound texture.
- Volume A: set output level.
Inspired by Timmy-type transparent pedals, this channel provides subtle, natural saturation, ideal for boosting an amp or adding character to a clean sound. Thanks to its NOS diodes (derived from the pedal), it retains a rich harmonic response and musical grain.
Dirt channel (Red LED) :
- Dirt: control the intensity, from crunch to distortion to massive fuzz.
- Tone: adjust the equalization, calibrated to mimic the responsiveness of an amp speaker.
- Volume B: control output level.
More aggressive and modern, this channel goes beyond the classic RAT. With a tone adjusted to simulate the reactivity of a loudspeaker, it offers interesting progressiveness, from crunch to powerful distortion, to a fuzz bursting with energy.
