What&#8217;s that?\u201d. So today, we&#8217;re diving into this somewhat obscure but oh-so-useful universe. I promise, you&#8217;ll end up wanting one on your pedalboard!  <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 id=\"what-is-a-signal-mixer-pedal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is a signal mixer pedal?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>A mixer pedal (or signal blender) is used to <strong>combine several audio signals <\/strong>&#8211; usually a direct (clean) signal and one or more signals processed by effects. It acts much like <strong>a small mixing console<\/strong> for guitar or bass, but with a very precise aim: to control the proportion of each signal in the final mix. <\/p>\n\n<p>In general, a mixer pedal offers :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One main input (guitar or bass),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One or more effects loops (send\/return),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix control (wet\/dry),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sometimes, a phase inversion, an A\/B switch, or an independent bypass.<br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 id=\"why-use-a-blender-pedal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why use a blender pedal?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 id=\"1-keep-signal-clean\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Keep signal clean<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Some effects &#8211; especially distortion, fuzz or filters &#8211; can remove the dynamics and intelligibility of the original sound. By using a blender pedal, you can <strong>keep part of the signal clean and superimpose the effect,<\/strong> for greater clarity, presence or punch (hello bassists!). <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"2-create-parallel-effects\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Create parallel effects<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Rather than chaining effects together<em>(serial chain<\/em>), you can use them in parallel. For example, you could : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>send a delay to a channel,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a reverb in another,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>then mix the two signals to your liking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The result: <strong>more control and less noise.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"3-testing-unlikely-combinations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Testing unlikely combinations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Parallel fuzz and phaser? Infinite reverb that doesn&#8217;t swallow up your dynamics? An ultra-slow tremolo coupled with a slamming crunch? With a blender, anything is possible, and your pedalboard becomes a laboratory&#8230;   <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"4-bypassing-the-limits-of-amplifier-loops\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Bypassing the limits of amplifier loops<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>If your amp doesn&#8217;t have an effects loop, or if it&#8217;s unsatisfactory, a blender lets you add effects without having to use the amp&#8217;s distortion.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 id=\"how-do-i-use-a-blender-pedal-on-a-pedalboard\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do I use a blender pedal on a pedalboard?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Chain placement :<\/p>\n\n<p>Generally placed<strong> before the amp (or in the effects loop if you want to mix post-gain effects)<\/strong>.
